The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, University of Ilorin, was established at 2013/2014 academic session as a clinical department at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The Department consists of staff with expertise in Large Animal Surgery, Small Animal Surgery, Large Animal Anaesthesia, Small Animal Anaesthesia and Diagnostic Imaging. They apply these skills to a wide range of research and make novel contributions to knowledge in Veterinary Medicine. The Department administers the Veterinary Medicine undergraduate concentration within the DVM curriculum. Additionally, the Department offers postgraduate programs (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) and collaborates with other Departments in the Faculty to train postgraduate students.
The Department is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research, staff empowerment, community development, and services in the field of Veterinary Medicine, and Veterinary Surgery, Anaesthesiology and Radiology in particular. It is aimed at producing men and women who are well-trained in all facets of the Veterinary profession, with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the areas of Veterinary practice, research, and innovations in the diagnosis and surgical management of disease conditions. Students are trained to be self-reliant in the field of Veterinary Medicine and practice and to be adequately prepared for postgraduate research.
